Welcome back to a new year. There have been lots of changes since we last talked in 2008. Grade 3 is no more! We are now grade 3 / 4. We have moved classrooms, have some new students, some from as far away as Cairns! We also have some students from last year. I have decided to retire the 2008 blog. A new one for 2009 is currently under construction (or will be in 5 minutes). I will provide a link so that we will be easy to find. See you on Monday. Keep cool!
Our new blog is called It’s Us! Click on the link to get to us.

On Saturday, we went to Mrs G’s for our class party. We were celebrating the end of our year in Grade 3. It rained all day, but we had fun anyway. We played games, Connect 4, Lego, Tenpin bowling, made Christmas decorations and sang along to Sing Star. There were sausages (cooked by Mr G) and party food made by some of our mums. We all swam in the pool (it was heated), except for Tiff. Her leg was still in plaster. We managed to wet her anyway as we splashed in the pool. It was a great afternoon. We are just waiting for Mrs G to publish some of the photos.

We had a great day. Next Wednesday, some of us get to go to Knox and compete with kids from other schools. We will do our best.

Mr and Mrs G have just arrived home from the Victorian State Committee of Highland Dancing’s annual variety concert, at Aquinas College. Not only did our very own Adam perform, but we got to see some other excellent dancers. A very enjoyable afternoon. Adam, you were great. I hope you keep dancing for many years to come.

These public toilets are painted with scenes from the Southport Railway Station in the early 1900’s. They are in a park close to the local baths. Mrs G and Miss Jane enjoyed the sunshine and watched the boats, and took lots of photos.

Grade 3 signing to their teacher. Grade 3 learn to sign, it helps with instructions, those kinesthetic learners, and the hearing impaired. A big thanks to Ruth, she helps us with lots of signs that Mrs G has forgotten! (old age? lack of use?). While we don’t have specific Auslan lessons (unless learning new signs), we do integrate it into our everyday communications. Teachers – it helps us a lot!

Mr T is a big help to the hockey team. He is the ‘team manager’, sometimes referee, and general ‘dogsbody’. Great work Mr T. Mrs G thought this was a great picture and couldn’t resist adding it to our blog.

Shortly after Josh’s amazing run with the ball, he took a dive and
landed heavily on the field. Although Josh left skin behind, he was
up and running with his team within seconds! Great team playing,
JOSH! Grade 3 are very proud to have you as a classmate.

Josh plays for an under 9’s Peninsula hockey team.
Here is a great action shot. All players get out of his way very quickly!
It was great to see Josh first hand at his last
game for the season.

Grade 3 learning about conjunctions. Mrs G made lots of sentences, in 2 parts.
She asked us to put them together, then some of us had conjunction words - and, while, if, when, because. We had to choose where we fitted best into the sentences. It was fun, but don’t tell Mrs G or Mrs F.

The Junior School teachers love any excuse to
act like small children, dress up and generally
‘clown’ around. The kids love to join in the fun.
The teachers were characters from Possum Magic.

Grandparents day was a roaring success. Grade 3 had over 20 ‘over 21’s’ visit during the morning. They helped us travel through our Olympic Games bus stops. Then, our visitors helped us design Olympic torches for the 2012 games in London. After morning tea, our visitors took turns in doing fractions on the interactive whiteboard (they needed our help!). We had a great time, the kids love having their grandparents and ’stand-in’ grandparents visit our classroom.

What a great idea! Emily baked a cake for our class to share. We were working on fractions, so, it came in handy and was soon eaten by everyone! Thanks Emily.

We were busy today, sending emails to some of our Olympic athletes. We hope they have a great time and enjoy representing their country. We are learning lots about our athletes.

Mrs G has been asked to attend a special celebration of the Mahogany Neighbourhood Centre in Frankston North. She was part of the ‘action group’ 25 years ago that turned a vision into a reality. Mrs G was also the first co-ordinator to work at the Neighbourhood House. It has now changed its name to Mahogany Neighbourhood Centre. Well done on meeting the needs of a challenging community.

Grade 3 hard at work, getting our heads around division! We have spent 3 weeks trying to understand ’sharing’ and ‘how many groups of’. Mrs G and Mrs F have worked hard to help us understand. Some of us have to improve on our times tables, as that will help us with division.

Friday night we enjoyed our Sayonara party to farewell our exchange students. We were entertained with calligraphy, traditional dance, Japanese songs, juggling, origami, children’s games and a kyudo
demonstration. We all shared supper before taking our students home for a well earned rest. They left for Japan on Sunday afternoon.

Mrs G says: “Thanks Mrs N and Mrs F for doing such a great job with grade 3 while I am away. I am looking forward to seeing all the work you are doing on the Olympic Games. Make sure you save your powerpoint presentations onto your USB’s. We will add them to your portfolios. Keep up the great work! I miss you, and thank you for my lovely card.

While our very favourite teacher has been resting her leg, we have been
keeping very busy. With Mrs N, we’ve started studying the olympics, learnt
how to sort words into alphabetical order, learnt about pronouns, and played
some cool games. We missed the guinea pigs this week, but will see them again
soon.
