The Junior School teachers love any excuse to

act like small children, dress up and generally

‘clown’ around.  The kids love to join in the fun.

The teachers were characters from Possum Magic.

Grandparents Day!

August 14, 2008 · 1 Comment

Grandparents day was a roaring success.  Grade 3 had over 20 ‘over 21’s’ visit during the morning.  They helped us travel through our Olympic Games bus stops.  Then, our visitors helped us design Olympic torches for the 2012 games in London.  After morning tea, our visitors took turns in doing fractions on the interactive whiteboard (they needed our help!).  We had a great time, the kids love having their grandparents and ’stand-in’ grandparents visit our classroom.

Happy 25 years!

August 5, 2008 · No Comments

Mrs G has been asked to attend a special celebration of the Mahogany Neighbourhood Centre in Frankston North.  She was part of the ‘action group’ 25 years ago that turned a vision into a reality.  Mrs G was also the first co-ordinator to work at the Neighbourhood House.  It has now changed its name to Mahogany Neighbourhood Centre.  Well done on meeting the needs of a challenging community.

Hard at work

August 5, 2008 · No Comments

Grade 3 hard at work, getting our heads around division! We have spent 3 weeks trying to understand ’sharing’ and ‘how many groups of’.  Mrs G and Mrs F have worked hard to help us understand.  Some of us have to improve on our times tables, as that will help us with division.

Say goodbye to our Japanese Exchange students

August 3, 2008 · No Comments

Friday night we enjoyed our Sayonara party to farewell our exchange students.  We were entertained with calligraphy, traditional dance, Japanese songs, juggling, origami, children’s games and a kyudo demonstration. We all shared supper before taking our students home for a well earned rest.  They left for Japan on Sunday afternoon.

Back at school

July 18, 2008 · No Comments

While our very favourite teacher has been resting her leg, we have been

keeping very busy. With Mrs N, we’ve started studying the olympics, learnt

how to sort words into alphabetical order, learnt about pronouns, and played

some cool games. We missed the guinea pigs this week, but will see them again

soon.

What an amazing machine!

July 6, 2008 · No Comments

On a hot day Mitch and I went to a washing machine shop. I said ‘hollo can we have that washing machine.  ‘yes you may that will be $50 ok. In 5 minutes we were pushing it and the next minute it went in front of a car BANG.  The machine was broken and falling to pieces, so we took it home, we tried to fix it and we did.  But it turned in to a robot, it did whatever it told you to do.  “Can you please make me a sandwich?”  “Yes you may”.  It has been five years they had had him and we made rocket boosters and wings.  On a day he was flying and got hit by a car and he got turned back into a machine again

                                                                                  THE END

Scrapbooking!

June 26, 2008 · No Comments

Grade 3 had fun making ’scrap’ pages of some favourite photos.  They had to choose photos that shared a similar theme, choose background papers and accessories, journal and then put it all together.  We had some great results, here are just a few. Students loved this activity and I’m sure parents enjoyed getting these priceless gifts.  Well done Grade 3!

Pyjama Day

June 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

After all our hard work reading, writing and studying about fairy tales, Mrs G let us wear our pj’s to school, bring our blankets or doonas, eat popcorn and drink milos!  We watched DVD’s ALL day.  It was great.  We saw Enchanted, Stone Soup, The Little Red Hen and Sercret Garden.  Now if you ask us, we can tell you some of the differences between the stories we read and the movies we watched.  We are getting very clever in our class!   Even our teachers wore their pj’s too!

Making Stone Soup in grade 3.  Many hands made light work.  Elise bought the stone, the rest of us added the lamb shanks, vegetables, stock and then enjoyed cups of hot soup for lunch.  Mrs G. nearly burnt the classroom down though!  We had a great time.

Possum Magic

June 5, 2008 · No Comments

possusm magic the musical    On Wednesday the entire Junior School travelled by bus to St Kilda.  We watched a performance of Possum Magic at the National Theatre.  This story was written by Mem Fox and has become a celebrated and favourite folk tale in Australia.  The performance was fabulous, included audience participation, songs, a blue wombat and pink kookaburras.  The children and teachers enjoyed the whole show, especially the solo dance by SNAKE! The theatre was packed with children from other schools and Bayside had fantastic seats.  Thanks to Mrs R for organising this trip for us to enjoy.            We had great fun at the park on the way home from our performance of Possum Magic.
